A splash page, also known as a splash screen, is a page of a web site that serves as an introductory page. It doesn't necessarily replace a homepage, but it can in some cases. It usually features a large image and/or very little content, as it is primarily used for warnings or restrictions (e.g. age restrictions, browser compatability), directing customers to the correct site or section (e.g. choose their country or language), or simply for asthetics and/or advertising.
